Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has assured residents that the Federal Government will not force the state to accept cattle ranching against their wishes, amid plans for a pilot ranching programme.
Alia said his administration remains committed to protecting the interests of Benue residents, adding that the term ranching should not necessarily be interpreted as cattle ranching, as other livestock such as goats and sheep could also be developed.
The governor urged residents to seek clarification before reacting to government announcements, warning that acting on assumptions could create unnecessary tension.
