The Lagos State House of Assembly has endorsed the proposed establishment of state police, urging that states should have full authority over the recruitment, administration and operations of their police services.

Speaker Mudashiru Obasa commended President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly for advancing the constitutional amendment on state police, while calling for clear provisions on when the Federal Government can intervene.

The Assembly also urged all 36 State Houses of Assembly to expedite consideration of the bill, saying state police would complement the Nigeria Police Force and strengthen community policing nationwide.
