Nigeria’s Super Falcons are through to the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a dramatic 2-1 victory over reigning champions South Africa. The win sets up a highly anticipated rematch against host nation Morocco , a repeat of the semi-final clash from the last edition.

The Super Falcons took the lead just before half-time when Rasheedat Ajibade calmly converted a penalty. South Africa responded in the second half with a penalty of their own, tucked away by Linda Motlhalo in the 60th minute to bring the game level.

As the match seemed to be heading for extra time, defender Michelle Alozie delivered a decisive moment. Her lofted ball from midfield in the fourth minute of stoppage time evaded everyone , including Nigeria’s attackers and South Africa’s goalkeeper Andile Dlamini, before finding the back of the net.

The late strike sealed Nigeria’s place in the final and ended South Africa’s hopes of back-to-back WAFCON titles.

Coach Justin Madugu will now lead his team into a showdown with Morocco, who will be hoping to claim their first WAFCON title on home soil.
